Commercialisation Grants-International Business Development Matching Fund
Malaysian Biotechnology Corporation Bhd (MBC)

Objective : To provide matching fund for R&D projects to develop new or improved products and/or processes and/or technologies.
Maximum financing : RM1.25 million to be disbursed within 4 years
Participating financial institutions / Implementing Ministry / Agency : MBC
Eligibility criteria :
  • BioNexus Status companies
  • Within Malaysia’s Biotechnology Focus Areas
  • The applicant must have ownership or intellectual property of the product
  • The product has export potential for countries as per their submitted proposal
  • The company’s products have been internationally benchmarked
  • The potential market value/distribution network for the proposed product has been evaluated
Purpose of financing : The funding shall cover expenditure in relation to a particular business development within Malaysia’s Biotechnology Focus Areas and has been or will be incurred on :
  • Country pre-clinical and clinical trial expenditures
  • Product registration costs
  • IP protection in other jurisdictions

Commercialisation Grants-RND Matching Fund
Malaysian Biotechnology Corporation Bhd (MBC)

Objective : To provide matching fund for R&D projects to develop new or improved products and/or processes and/or technologies.
Maximum financing : RM1.0 million to be disbursed within 2 years
Participating financial institutions / Implementing Ministry / Agency : MBC
Eligibility criteria :
  • BioNexus status companies
  • The applicant must have ownership or beneficial use, of any intellectual property necessary to commercialise the innovation
  • The innovation has commercial potential
  • The applicant’s business must be located in Malaysia and within Malaysia’s Biotechnology Focus Areas
  • The company should have an appropriate research team led by a qualified technical personnel
Purpose of financing :
  • The provision of sites or premises (including the acquisition of land), the construction and adaptation of buildings, and the provision of services and other works
  • The provision of plants, machinery, equipment and materials
  • The payment of fees or other remuneration to technical advisers consulted in connection with the project
  • Salary and wages of contract researchers directly involved in the project
  • The travel and subsistence expenses of persons engaged in the project or in identifying products or process development prospects within the industrial undertaking
  • Overhead charges associated with the project concerned. Term loan and working capital

Malaysian Biotechnology Corporation Bhd (MBC)

Objective : To finance start-up costs in setting up biotech companies and assist towards the development and commercialisation of biotechnology projects in line with the objectives of the National Biotechnology Policy.
Maximum financing : RM2.5 million to be disbursed within 2 years
Participating financial institutions / Implementing Ministry / Agency : MBC
Eligibility criteria :
  • Individuals, researchers and start-up companies who are in the early stage of setting up companies that has been granted the BioNexus status
  • The applicant must have ownership or beneficial use, of any intellectual property necessary to commercialise the innovation
  • The innovation has commercial potential
  • The applicant’s business must be located in Malaysia and within Malaysia’s Biotechnology Focus Areas
Purpose of financing :
  • Recruitment of interim professional management
  • Initial market development efforts
  • IP filing and registration
  • Market and feasibility studies
  • Preparation of further investment documentations
  • Malaysian compliance and regulatory costs
  • Prototyping costs
