SARA is expanded to the farmer’s market, opening opportunities for entrepreneurs’ income levels

KUALA TERENGGANU, – The expansion of the use of Basic Mercy Contribution (SARA) for the purchase of wet and fresh goods at the farmer’s market is expected to increase the sales and income of agricultural entrepreneurs, in addition to making it easier for the people to obtain essential goods.

Terengganu Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (FAMA) Director, Muhammad Fadlee Hassan said the initiative through the MADANI 2027 Budget benefits consumers and traders.

“If we look at the extension of SARA to farmers’ markets, it does make it easier for the people to enjoy its benefits anywhere. The benefits are also for our own entrepreneurs, which means giving an increase in income to entrepreneurs when the people buy from them at the farmers’ markets,” he said when commenting on the extension of the use of SARA to 216 farmers’ or guest markets across the country that was announced through the presentation of the MADANI 2027 Budget last Friday.

According to him, the move is in line with the increase in the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security’s (KPKM) allocation to RM6.92 billion to strengthen the country’s food security and improve the well-being of agro-food sector operators.

He explained, In Terengganu, there are 11 farmer’s market locations involving more than 500 traders.
