KUALA LUMPUR, – The Tunas Utama building owned by UDA Holdings Berhad (UDA) which is over 40 years old has now been given a new lease of life through redevelopment as Chinatown 1974, a commercial space in Jalan Petaling.
Chinatown 1974 features the concept of “Moving Through Time”, inspired by the atmosphere of Kuala Lumpur’s Chinatown in the 1970s with a modern twist. The eight-storey building houses eight businesses in the food and beverage, wellness and hospitality sectors.
The Minister of Entrepreneurship and Cooperative Development, Steven Sim Chee Keong, said that the transformation of the building which started operating in 1983 proved that old assets can still be used productively by adapting them according to the tastes and needs of the current market.
“Unwittingly, I brought up Chinatown 1974 after seeing it go viral on TikTok recently. I made this project an example of how UDA can unearth the value and potential of existing assets.
“The building with a historical concept that is over 40 years old has not been inhabited for five years due to COVID-19. Apparently, the project that went viral is UDA’s own project, so it is very proud,” he added.
