KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 2 (Bernama) -- The Ministry of Entrepreneur Development (MED) will create a one-stop centre, which will, among others, store data and information on entrepreneurs, gather feedback, provide advisory service and coordinate complaints on entrepreneurial matters in a move to further empower the development of Bumiputera entrepreneurs and small and medium enterprises (SMEs).

SINGAPORE, Sept 2 (Bernama) --  Several countries have expressed their interest to invest in Malaysia particularly in Borneo, revealed Malaysia’s International Trade and Industry Minister Darell Leiking.

Without naming the countries and industries that they may venture into, the minister said the interest may be translated into new investments and injection of additional investments into existing operations.

PUTRAJAYA, Aug 30 (Bernama) -- The government has no choice but to implement the Sales and Services Tax (SST) by Sept 1, despite various issues, or else the country’s current account will fall into deficit, Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng said.

He said the country would experience a shortfall of RM4 billion in revenue if the SST were not rolled out and this would place a heavy toll on the government's economic performance.

Sabah allocates RM1 million to empower SME

SANDAKAN, Aug 29 (Bernama) -- The Sabah Trade and Industry Ministry has allocated a RM1 million grant for the development of the Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in the state through the SIRIM-Fraunhofer programme.

Its assistant minister Azhar Matussin said it was a continuous commitment to ensure the success of the SME entrepreneurs through the programme which specifically designed to enhance the productivity of the SMEs via technology applications and interventions.

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 28 (Bernama) -- The Primary Industries Ministry has urged government agencies to come out with a directive for contractors to use local rubber products to promote the industry and benefit smallholders.

“It doesn't make sense that our rubber gloves, for example, are being widely exported to many countries, but local rubber is not used by many projects in Malaysia,” said Minister Teresa Kok Suh Sim to reporters after launching the National Rubber Economic Conference 2018 here today.

SINGAPORE, Aug 27 (Bernama) -- The Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (FAMA) says it wants to see more Malaysian products marketed in the island republic. “If your product can penetrate the Singapore or Australia markets, your products should also be able to penetrate the global market,” said FAMA Corporation CEO Zainal Abidin Yang Razalli.

MITI to discuss GCC FTA with Tun Mahathir

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 27 (Bernama) -- International Trade and Industry Minister Darell Leiking will discuss reviving negotiations on the free trade agreement (FTA) between Malaysia and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) with Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad. He said revival of the framework agreement was possible as long as it benefits all parties.

PETALING JAYA: The sales and services tax (SST) regime is likely to have an impact on the earnings of manufacturers and importers while healthcare and building material companies are among the major beneficiaries.

Under the SST system, which will begin from Sept 1, several manufacturers and importers would have to pay up to 10% tax rate in comparison with the 6% rate under the previous goods and services tax (GST) regime.

KOTA KINABALU, Aug 25 (Bernama) -- Small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in Sabah should take advantage of the opportunities presented by the Malaysian Industrial Development Finance Bhd’s (MIDF) financing scheme to grow their businesses, says International Trade and Industry Minister Darell Leiking. He said the number of SMEs in Sabah who received financial assistance from MIDF, since its establishment in 1960, to start or expand their businesses was still low and accounted for only 764 out of 10,818 companies nationwide.

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 22 (Bernama) -- Small and medium enterprises (SMEs) must innovate and embrace digitalisation as a mindset, across all areas, to grab opportunities presented in the digital economy, says SME Corporation Malaysia (SME Corp).

It emphasised that the adoption of digitalisation must be across people, processes, technology and data as this would enable companies to innovate faster and achieve the desired business outcomes.
