KUALA LUMPUR, – Local companies need to move from simply producing products to developing products that are designed and produced by local people to strengthen the Malaysian brand in the global market.
The Minister of Entrepreneurship and Cooperative Development (KUSKOP), Steven Sim said that the transition from the concept of Made in Malaysia to Made by Malaysia is important to ensure that local products have their own identity, value and competitiveness.
“Perhaps the previous model was our model of making other people’s products in our country, made in Malaysia. We should gradually switch to the made by Malaysia model, products designed, created and made by Malaysians,” he said to reporters after officiating the BrandQuest 2026 program and the National Mark of Malaysian Brand appreciation ceremony in the capital, today.
He said efforts to build a stronger Malaysian brand need to focus on three main aspects, namely value, innovation as well as safety, health and quality.
In the meantime, he also said the allocation of about RM230,000 from SME Corp will help about 40 micro, small and medium enterprises (PMKS) obtain National Mark of Malaysian Brand certification for the period 2025 and 2026.
